Caught a session in Long Beach, New York on July 25, 2019. I surfed a Firewire Chumlee from 11am-2pm. Had a Thai lunch in town, then headed back out to snap water shots. The waves were significantly smaller and more textured, but still fun. The sky had a blue moodiness that reminded me of Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin. While shooting, I thought about the famous images of Long Beach by Matt Clark. They’re so iconic—they always creep into my mind while shooting there. What’s more LB than capturing the sunset through the tube with a little town in the background? If you haven’t checked out Matt’s stuff, you should leave this page now and do that.
The swell peaked at 4.5’ at 8s around eleven. During these photos (after 3pm), the swell was closer to 3’ or 3.5’ at 8s.
