Book Review: Pier Rats

Pier Rats
Review by Ross Cauvel

The 70's was a golden era for surfing. Uncrowded. New board designs (Lis Fish). Cool cars. And, of course, polyester disco shirts.

Pier Rats written by Bruce Greif, let's the reader dip their toe into a time period with a coming-of-age story about a group of high school friends surfing in 70's Ventura, California.

The book is a light-hearted adventure with a cast of colorful beach town characters. The main character, Lance Stratton, must scam, scheme and surf his way through self-discovery, all while finding his place in the lineup.

While the book is far from profound, it does manage to keep the reader entertained with humorous details and a slice of a simpler time.
